INSULA EUROPAE PROJECT

Last project steps: the Results

We’re now facing the last steps of the Insula Europae project…

So, let’s talk about the project RESULTS…

Insula Europae main output are THE CURRICULA

European Integration History

European Civic Education

European Literature and Culture

Those curricula are the result of an hard work realized by a partnership made of different kinds of subjects, such us

    •  universities,
    • research centres,
    • training agencies,
    • Schools,
    • and so on…
Coming from different European countries, as shown below.

Insula Europae involved:

That is to say:

  • 1031 STUDENTS
  • 65 TEACHERS
of European secondary schools.

The main objectives

The main objective of Insula Europae project was to take part to two main discussions:

  1. How can the Cooperative E-learning Instruments offer a contribution in the teaching of the Humanistic Subjects in the secondary education?
  2. With the help of what kind of tools and approaches is possible to give to the humanistic Subjects a European dimension?

    1. How can the Cooperative E-learning Instruments offer a contribution in the teaching of the Humanistic Subjects in the secondary education?

      • The use of ICT and most of all the cooperative tools in education is attractive.
      • The students of secondary schools are used to the multimedia application, such as with the video-games
      • Those tools need to be “usable” and this means a great investment, which is not reachable for the EU schools budget.

So the big challenge will be
To create a stimulant and attractive learning virtual environment, without employing high financial resources, so to be financially and economically sustainable for the schools, while stimulant for the students.

A second element in this field that must be underlined concerns the relationship between learners/teachers.
In a cooperative e-learning perspective, the student is the centre of the learning process and becomes a critical analyzer of the products and of the processes (Constructivist Theory)
This becomes even more evident with the use of the most recent ICT community tools such as WIKI, where knowledge becomes an on-going process

  • With the help of what kind of tools and approaches is possible to give to the humanistic Subjects a European dimension?

Which approach can be defined as European?

That is to say, which approach is enriched by the continental framework of the ideas and contents?
The school programs reflect in general national dimensions, that shouldn’t be “replaced” by a European one.

Starting from this, Insula Europae tried to:

  • Introduce a history of the idea and of their continental development
  • Promote an opening towards the European historical and cultural aspects
Foster the understanding of how diversity should be considered the rich base for cultural and human enrichment.
